Barry Manilow Announces Lung Cancer Diagnosis, Postpones January Performances for Surgery

In a recent and candid announcement on his Instagram account, legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow revealed that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The news has prompted the rescheduling of his January performances at the Westgate Las Vegas as he prepares to undergo surgery to remove a cancerous spot discovered on his left lung.

Manilow's statement detailed the sequence of events leading to the diagnosis. Initially treated for bronchitis, which spanned six weeks followed by a five-week relapse, Manilow underwent an MRI as a precautionary measure ordered by his physician. This proactive approach proved crucial, as the MRI revealed the presence of a cancerous spot.

"As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks. Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK,” Manilow stated. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.”

The 80-year-old performer expressed optimism regarding his prognosis. Doctors believe the cancer has not spread, a diagnosis Manilow is currently undergoing further testing to confirm. He also shared positive news regarding his treatment plan, stating that he will not require chemotherapy or radiation. Instead, his recovery plan involves "chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns," signaling a hopeful and lighthearted approach to his healing process.

While his January shows have been postponed to allow for surgery and initial recovery, Manilow reassured fans that he intends to return to the stage in February, resuming his performances at the Westgate Las Vegas.

Manilow concluded his message with an important call to action, urging his followers to prioritize their health and seek medical attention if they experience any concerning symptoms. This emphasis on preventative care underscores the significance of early detection in the fight against cancer.

The news of Manilow's diagnosis has been met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow artists alike. Many have taken to social media to express their well wishes and offer encouragement during this challenging time. His transparency and positive attitude serve as an inspiration to others facing similar health battles.

Barry Manilow's contribution to the world of music is undeniable, and his dedication to his fans is evident in his commitment to returning to the stage as soon as his health allows. We wish him a successful surgery and a speedy recovery, and look forward to welcoming him back to Las Vegas in February.
